Increases to 50 the number of injured after explosion in Paris

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the number of injured after the explosion in Paris on June 21 in the city center has risen to approximately 50 people, BFMTV reported. This figure represents an increase compared to the initial report that reported 37 affected.

Serious injuries: critical condition and severe burns after the explosion in Paris

French Health Minister Francois Braun earlier stressed that victims in critical condition suffered severe burns and require specialized medical attention. This fact highlights the seriousness and urgency in the treatment of the injuries suffered by some of those affected.

The collapse of the building and further damage

The explosion, which took place in a building of the Paris American Academy design school, caused the total collapse of the structure. In addition, the facades of other nearby buildings also collapsed, and some buildings in the vicinity of the blast site caught fire.

The Paris American Academy is an educational institution offering design, art and fashion programs in Paris, France. It was founded in 1965 and has played an important role in training international students interested in various creative fields.

Emergency response and evacuation

As a safety precaution, residents of several nearby homes were evacuated. The Interior Ministry reported that 260 firefighters, 70 fire trucks and 200 police officers are involved to provide assistance to the victims, extinguish the fire and cordon off the area of the incident.

Ongoing investigation and search and rescue operations

The Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation for “unintentional damage” to determine the causes of the explosion. So far, the cause of the incident remains unknown, although several witnesses have reported a strong smell of gas. Paris Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire has confirmed that search and rescue operations, as well as debris removal, are ongoing.
