“Be careful with your holidays” Work tensions at Volaris possible suspension of activities

The airline Volaris is facing a crisis due to the possibility of a work stoppage by its workers, which has the support and legal advice of the Trade Union Association of Air Flight Attendants (ASSA).

Ada Hernández, general secretary of the ASSA, has expressed her support for the strike proposed by Volaris employees, scheduled for Friday, June 2, as a form of protest against abusive working conditions within the airline, under the direction of Enrique Beltranena.

In a leaked audio, Ada Hernández offers legal help to Volaris workers to organize the strike, since, according to the general secretary of the ASSA, employees do not have the authority to initiate a strike themselves. The ASSA has appointed three legal specialists in commercial, union and labor issues to provide support to the work stoppage, which originated due to multiple labor abuses and has resulted in more than 150 dismissals of workers who allegedly resigned “voluntarily.”

On May 29, Volaris announced the opening of 40 new air routes, 33 of which have no direct competition and will connect 16 cities directly. Holger Blankenstein, Vice President of Volaris, explained that these new routes are the result of a restructuring and optimization of international supply chains, carried out in response to the pandemic.

These new routes will begin operating from July 10 and will focus mainly on Guanajuato, with 12 new routes, as well as Baja California and Sinaloa, with a dozen and nine new routes respectively.

In addition, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will have two new routes: one to Culiacán and another to Ciudad Juárez, which will have frequencies of three days a week at the beginning
