“Large Spanish companies limit the use of ChatGPT due to security fears and biases in AI”

Large Spanish companies have limited or banned the use of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI. Telefónica restricts its use to internally controlled accounts and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) has banned its widespread use, although it allows authorization to be requested for specific cases. Redeia has blocked the public version of ChatGPT due to possible security risks in information protection, which is especially relevant for a company that manages strategic infrastructures.

Other important companies such as Naturgy and Enagás, in the electricity and gas sector, have sent recommendations to their employees on the use of artificial intelligence tools. Repsol and Mapfre, energy and insurance companies respectively, are developing protocols to guarantee the safe and ethical use of artificial intelligence.

These companies express concern about the high probability that AI-generated information is biased or incorrect. They also warn about the danger of entering personal and corporate data, since there is a risk of leaks. Although they expect government regulation that sets parameters for generative AI, they are exploring the possibilities this technology can offer to their business processes.

At the national level, Spain stands out as the first country to establish an agency dedicated to overseeing artificial intelligence. In addition, the Spanish government is preparing a pilot project so that companies can test the future European regulation and anticipate possible obstacles to innovation.
