Danny Masterson, renowned actor of the famous series “That ’70s Show”, is in an extremely complicated legal situation, facing accusations of rape that could result in a jail sentence.
Recently, a jury of seven women and five men in Los Angeles returned a guilty verdict on two counts of rape against Masterson.
This new trial has highlighted the prominent involvement of the Church of Scientology, to which the actor belongs. After seven days of deliberation, spread over two weeks, the jury finally reached a decision.
Prosecutors presented compelling evidence indicating Masterson raped three women at his Hollywood Hills residence during a period spanning the years 2001 and 2003.
In response to the allegations, Masterson’s defense attorneys chose not to call witnesses and argued that all relationships were consensual. In addition, they highlighted that the women’s testimonies presented inconsistencies and changes over time, which suggested the possibility of coordination between them.
Right now, the actor is in custody, handcuffed and facing the possibility of a sentence that could reach up to 30 years in prison. During his arrest, his wife Bijou Phillips couldn’t hold back tears as he was taken away by authorities.
