A terrifying event

In a residential neighborhood on the outskirts of South Korea’s capital, Seoul, an indiscriminate attack was unleashed that left a dozen people injured. The incident occurred on Thursday (03.08.2023) in the city of Seongnam, located south of Seoul, in a locality that is part of the metropolitan area. The scene was overshadowed by a man who plowed into pedestrians using a vehicle to run them over and a knife to stab those nearby.

Rapid police response

Local authorities responded quickly to the emergency. Police managed to arrest the individual suspected of being responsible for the violent attack as he tried to escape the scene of the crime. The man reportedly first rammed pedestrians with his vehicle and then proceeded to carry out indiscriminate attacks with a knife.

Uncertainty about motives

So far, the motives behind the attack are unknown. The population is worried because just over a week ago, on July 21, a similar situation was experienced southeast of the capital, where a man stabbed pedestrians, causing one fatality and three injuries.

Security in question

South Korea has traditionally been regarded as one of the safest countries in the world, with a low homicide rate of 1.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. However, these recent events have generated concern in the population of the area, known for its quiet streets and residential houses.

We hope that the authorities will soon be able to clarify the motives behind this attack and that the victims will be able to recover from their injuries. The community remains vigilant and hopes that adequate measures will be implemented to preserve security and peace in the region.
